A Common Substrate for Cluster Computing

چکیده
The success of MapReduce has sparked many efforts to design cluster computing frameworks. We argue that no single framework will be optimal for all applications, and that we should instead enable organizations to run multiple frameworks efficiently in the same cloud. Furthermore, to ease development of new frameworks, it is critical to identify common abstractions and modularize their architectures. To achieve these goals, we propose Nexus, a low-level substrate that provides isolation and efficient resource sharing across frameworks running on the same cluster, while giving each framework freedom to implement its own programming model and fully control the execution of its jobs. Nexus fosters innovation in the cloud by letting organizations run new frameworks alongside existing ones and by letting framework developers focus on specific applications rather than building onesize-fits-all frameworks.

Simulation of Fabrication toward High Quality Thin Films for Robotic Applications by Ionized Cluster Beam Deposition
The most commonly used method for the production of thin films is based on deposition of atoms or molecules onto a solid surface. One of the suitable method is to produce high quality metallic, semiconductor and organic thin film is Ionized cluster beam deposition (ICBD), which are used in electronic, robotic, optical, optoelectronic devices. Many important factors such as cluster size, cluster...

Parallel computing is a topic of interest for a broad scientific community since it facilitates many time-consuming algorithms in different application domains. In this paper, we introduce a novel platform for parallel computing by using MPI and OpenMP programming languages based on set of networked PCs. UMZHPC is a free Linux-based parallel computing infrastructure that has been developed to cr...
متن کاملMolecular Dynamics Simulation of Al Energetic Nano Cluster Impact (ECI) onto the Surface
On the atomic scale, Molecular Dynamic (MD) Simulation of Nano Al cluster impact on Al (100) substrate surface has been carried out for energies of 1-20 eV/atom to understand quantitatively the interaction mechanisms between the cluster atoms and the substrate atoms. The many body Embedded Atom Method (EAM) was used in this simulation. We investigated the maximum substrate temperature Tmax and...
متن کاملParallel Spatial Pyramid Match Kernel Algorithm for Object Recognition using a Cluster of Computers
This paper parallelizes the spatial pyramid match kernel (SPK) implementation. SPK is one of the most usable kernel methods, along with support vector machine classifier, with high accuracy in object recognition. MATLAB parallel computing toolbox has been used to parallelize SPK. In this implementation, MATLAB Message Passing Interface (MPI) functions and features included in the toolbox help u...

This paper summarizes recent research on networked virtual computing in the NICL lab at Duke. Over the past few years, we have constructed a service-oriented substrate for networked sharing and adaptive middleware environments based on a virtual on-demand computing. The goal of the project is to develop protocols and tools that can link together virtual computing clusters at different sites, an...
